Kenya Safari Cost Per Day, by Tier

Per-day pricing is the clearest way to budget a Kenya safari. The single biggest fixed line is the park fee; the rest scales with comfort.

Because park fees ($60 to $200 per day) are the same whatever you pay, the cheapest way to add value is upgrading the vehicle and lodging, not cutting time in the parks.

The price per person assumes two people sharing accommodation. Solo travelers add a single supplement (typically 50-75% of the sharing rate).

What Is Included in a Safari Daily Rate?

This varies by tier, which is why direct cost comparisons between quotes can be misleading.

Budget tier typically includes: Bed and breakfast or camping only. Game drives are extra (vehicle hire + guide + park fee). Meals at a camp canteen or self-catered.

Mid-range typically includes: Full board (all meals), morning and afternoon game drives in a shared vehicle, camp activities, and transfers from the nearest airstrip. Park fees are sometimes included, sometimes extra — read carefully.

2026 Park Fee Structure: What Changed

The biggest change to Kenya safari cost per day in 2026 is the Masai Mara park fee increase.

Masai Mara (Narok County National Reserve):

• Non-resident adult: USD 200 per person per day (effective July 1, 2026)
• Resident (Kenya/East Africa): KES 1,500 per person per day
• Vehicle: KES 1,000-2,500 depending on size

This is a significant increase from the previous USD 80 rate. A couple spending 3 nights in the Mara now pays USD 1,200 in park fees alone, in addition to accommodation costs.

Other park fees (non-resident, 2026):

Important note on conservancies: The private conservancies surrounding the Masai Mara — Olare Motorogi, Ol Kinyei, Mara Naboisho, Mara North, and others — charge a conservancy fee that is included in the camp nightly rate. There is no separate park entry fee. For premium camps in conservancies, the USD 200 Narok park fee does not apply. This makes conservancy camps, which appear more expensive at first glance, sometimes competitive on a total-cost basis.

Budget Tier: USD 80-180 Per Person Per Day

At the budget end of the Kenya safari spectrum, the primary costs are:

• Accommodation: USD 30-80 per person per night (budget camping, dormitory tents, or basic bandas with shared bathroom)
• Park fee: USD 52 (most parks) to USD 200 (Masai Mara) per person per day
• Vehicle hire (shared): USD 50-100 per person per day split across 4-6 guests
• Guide: Often included with vehicle hire
• Meals: USD 15-30 per day if not self-catered

Budget reality check: The new Masai Mara park fee has effectively eliminated the “budget Masai Mara” option for non-residents. • Full board (all meals included)

The mid-range sweet spot in the Mara ecosystem has shifted toward private conservancy camps, where the conservancy fee is built into rates that often start at USD 350-450 all-inclusive.
