There is only one national park in Kenya where you can cycle freely among giraffes, zebras, and buffalo, and that is Hell's Gate. No fence between you and the animals. No vehicle. Just your bicycle, the volcanic landscape, and wildlife going about its morning business around you. This is exactly what makes Hell's Gate one of the most talked-about day trips in the country.  After cycling the open savannah and gorge, we head down to Lake Naivasha for a completely different experience: a boat ride on the water, level with the hippos. Fish eagles call overhead. Pelicans drift past. The papyrus channels open up into wide, calm water where hippo families surface and submerge around you.  We also stop at the Rift Valley escarpment viewpoint on the drive, one of the most dramatic landscape views in Kenya, and visit the Hell's Gate gorge on foot, threading through narrow volcanic passages and past active geothermal steam vents.
