Amboseli Safari Packages

Amboseli Safari Packages 2026: Prices, Itineraries and Elephants

Amboseli is the park where you watch giant elephant families cross the plains with Mount Kilimanjaro towering behind them. It is one of the most photographed scenes in Africa, and Amboseli safari packages are among the best-value trips we build at Trunktrails Safaris. Lower park fees, easy access from Nairobi and reliable elephant sightings make it a favourite for first-timers and families. Here is what an Amboseli package costs in 2026, what the itinerary looks like, and how to get the most from it. 🐘

Amboseli Safari Packages

The short version: Amboseli safari packages start around $550 per person for a short road trip, which makes them noticeably cheaper than an equivalent Mara package while still delivering unforgettable wildlife.

Why Choose an Amboseli Safari Package?

Amboseli’s appeal is specific and strong:

  • Elephants up close, in some of the largest and best-studied herds in Africa
  • Kilimanjaro as a backdrop, clearest at dawn and dusk
  • Lower park fees than the Masai Mara, which keeps the package price down
  • Easy access, roughly four hours by road from Nairobi or a short flight

That combination makes Amboseli a brilliant first park, and an easy add-on to a Mara trip. Our wider Kenya safari packages guide shows how Amboseli slots into longer itineraries.

Amboseli Package Cost and Logistics, in Numbers

Amboseli sits about 240 km south of Nairobi (4 to 4.5 hours by road through Meshanani Gate, or a 45-minute fly-in). It is a premium park at about USD 90 per adult per 24 hours.

TierIndicative pp (2 nights)Stay
Budget~$300 to $450Camps outside the park
Mid-range~$500 to $900Ol Tukai, Serena or Sopa (in-park)
Luxury~$900 to $1,500+Tortilis, Tawi (camps)

Most Amboseli packages run two nights, enough for several game drives, the famous big tuskers, and a clear Kilimanjaro dawn before the cloud builds by mid-morning.

Amboseli’s lower fees show up directly in these numbers. The mid-range private package, where most of our guests land, gives you a 4×4 to yourselves and a comfortable camp. For a complete cost picture, see our Kenya safari cost guide, and for the park itself, our Amboseli National Park guide covers the wildlife in depth.

The Amboseli Safari Itinerary From Nairobi

A typical 3-day Amboseli package runs like this.

  • Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Amboseli, arrive for lunch, then an afternoon game drive as the light softens on Kilimanjaro.
  • Day 2: A full day in the park, morning and afternoon drives among the elephant herds and across the open pans.
  • Day 3: An early drive for the best Kilimanjaro views, breakfast, then the road back to Nairobi.

Dawn and dusk are when the mountain reveals itself, so a package that includes early and late drives gives you the best chance at that signature photograph.

Amboseli Safari Package Deals: Getting Better Value

Amboseli is already good value, and a few choices stretch it further. Green season, in April, May and November, brings lower rates and dramatic skies behind the mountain. Travelling by road rather than flying keeps costs down. And a group of four splits the private vehicle cost neatly.

Amboseli also pairs beautifully with Tsavo, which lies along the same route back toward the coast, so combining the two can be more efficient than two separate trips. Many of our tours and safaris link Amboseli with a second park for exactly this reason.

Who Is an Amboseli Package Best For?

Amboseli suits a range of travellers. Families love the reliable, close elephant sightings and the easy access. Photographers chase the Kilimanjaro backdrop. First-timers appreciate the gentler pace and lower cost. And anyone short on time can see the park properly in just two or three days.

If big cats and the migration are your priority, the Mara is the better headline park, but for elephants and scenery, Amboseli is hard to beat.

The Trunktrails Advantage

Trunktrails Safaris is Nairobi-based and Kenyan-owned, and Amboseli is one of our most-run routes. We know which camps frame Kilimanjaro best and how to time your drives for the clearest mountain views, which is the detail that makes an Amboseli trip special. 🌅

Booking with us means:

  • Camps chosen for the views, so you wake to the mountain
  • Drives timed for elephants and light, not just the standard schedule
  • Conservation built in, with a share of every package supporting Amboseli’s ecosystem, so your tours and safaris give back

That local care is the Trunktrails Safaris difference.
